From People Manager to Product Manager

How I Transitioned Out of Retail and Into Tech.

Rewind to November 2003, and at 17 years old I started my High School “dream job” of being a Sales Associate at an athletic shoe store in the mall.

This meant access (and a discount) to the hottest sneakers. Air Force 1’s, Retro Jordans, heck even Chucks and Superstars. I had it all and I was able to work in a fast-paced environment, surrounded by cool co-workers, and the dope music.

Needless to say, I made sure that I was the best.

Fast forward 17 years and I have worked in every store role as I ascended the ranks and am now one of the top District Managers, responsible for over $30 million in revenue spread throughout 16 locations across three states.

But after 6 years of mastering multi unit management, I was ready for more, and even more ready to get out of the field.

But what was more?

For me it was Product Management, a tech role that has become a breeding ground for Founders and CEO’s.
